Proficiencies and Proficiency Levels

3JPG does not have an all encompassing weapon roster but if any other weapons are introduced to the game, they’ll show up here. Currently, weapons are broken down into the following categories:

Unarmed, Light Axe, Heavy Axe, Proximity-Blade, Short-Blade, Long-Blade, Two-Handed Blade, Small Blunt, Large Blunt, Pole, Staff, Light Bows, Heavy Bows, Light Throw, Heavy Throw, Spin and Ram.

Most of the categories contain multiple weapons, each player has a level of proficiency (or no proficiency) with every weapon but some carry-over happens in each category. Unlike D&D, in 3JPG one levels up their proficiency with a weapon. So, someone could be a level 3 battle-axe user and a level 4 long-sword user. That being said, any proficiency levels that a player accrues apply to the whole category up until level 4. For example:

A character might have a short sword which falls into the short-blade category. He might level that up so that he now has 1 level of proficiency with it. That level applies to the whole category of short-blades. Lets say he levels it up again. Now he’s a level 2 with all short-blades. Same with level 3. If he levels his short sword to level 4 though, he’s still only a level 3 with all of the other short-blades.

Two-Handed Blade – Greatsword, Bastard Sword, Cavalry Sabre
Small Blunt – Club, Handhammer
Large Blunt – Mace, Warhammer
Pole – Short Spear, Long Spear, Halberd
Staff – Quarterstaff
Light Bow – Shortbow
Heavy Bow – Longbow, Warbow
Light Throw – Dart, Shuriken
Heavy Throw – Javelin, Throwing Axe, Throwing Knife, Sling

Weapons in Detail

What follows is a breakdown of every weapon currently available. First there’s a description, then the weight and average worth, then the number of hands it requires for a human to wield it and the proficiency type. Additional Range is the number of feat in addition to the natural reach of the user that the weapon grants. Modified by tells which ability governs the use of the weapon.

Brawling
Brawling is the world’s standard fare unarmed combat. Brawlers can be found in bars, arenas and among adventurers but usually only when they’ve been disarmed.

Artistry
Artistry is the most difficult martial art to pick up. Practitioners (artistes) are generally feared by their opponents as they use a deadly blend of highly precise jabs and holds to defeat their enemies. Artistry can only be learned by high-ranking artistes and so its a rare discipline to own.
